In our days (we’re in our 60’s now) it used to be called “moonlighting” and it really wasn’t something you did and was definitely frowned upon.

Nowadays, times are very different and many people including high flying professionals are seeking additional income streams and creating their own economy.  It’s not even discouraged by employers since they see that they are able to retain their top executives and employees.

In fact when we first decided to create our own economy aside from our management consultancy business it was part time and alongside our principle business.  We soon realised that this held the potential for us to fulfill our financial goals and deal with our lack of a pension nest egg and within six months our part time ‘side gig’ became our full time business.

The question really is will it be necessary to create your own economy in the future?

We decided to write this post having just read “The Economy of You – Discover Your Inner Entrepreneur” by Kimberly Palmer where she writes about the different ways to create part time self-employment or “side gigs” as she calls them.

Kimberly walks you through the many different ways to create your own economy from selling products through to online services and consultancy including social media, website design, copywriting, blogging, search engine optimization etc.  Basically if you find you are good at something and you enjoy doing it then you can create your own economy doing it ….. provided there is a demand of course!

We totally agree with her predictions for the future and that you will have to create your own economy in some way, shape or form to give you financial security whatever your age, background or career choice.  What is paramount is you do something you love or it will become much like the job or career you very likely hate.

We discovered through creating our own economy that we love teaching and training and speaking about online entrepreneurship and in particular online business education.  It’s a fantastic niche, there are thousands of people looking to create their own economy and they need the education.
