That’s One Small Step For Man – Tribute to Neil Armstrong

That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind

Tribute to Neil Armstrong

(The First Man on the Moon)

U.S. astronaut Neil Armstrong, who took a giant leap for mankind when he became the first person to walk on the moon died aged 82 and left his mark on civilisation forever.

As commander of the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969. As he stepped on the dusty surface, Armstrong said: “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Those words endure as one of the best known quotes in the English language.

Neil Alden Armstrong was 38 years old at the time and even though he had fulfilled one of mankind’s age-old quests that placed him at the pinnacle of human achievement, he did not revel in his accomplishment. He even seemed frustrated by the acclaim it brought.

“I guess we all like to be recognized not for one piece of fireworks but for the ledger of our daily work,” Armstrong said in an interview on CBS’s “60 Minutes” program in 2005.

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong put his left foot on the rocky Moon. It was the first human footprint on the Moon.

That's One Small Step For Man

He once was asked how he felt knowing his footprints would likely stay on the moon’s surface for thousands of years. “I kind of hope that somebody goes up there one of these days and cleans them up,” he said.

We hope that never happens – history has been written and however he felt about his achievement he has inspired millions and will continue to do so forever.

A person’s “footprint” or personal achievement is their’s alone and endures for generations.  You can write your own history.

It was the “stuff of dreams” when we watched back in 1969 when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the moon.

I Wish ….. I Could Think And Grow Rich

I Wish ….. I Could Think And Grow Rich

I Wish

Do you remember the delights of wishes when you were a child …. it all seemed so simple then and you thought that wishes came true just because you wished for them … do you remember blowing out the birthday candles and making a wish …. we certainly do.  We said it to our kids and we’re sure we will be telling it to our grand child very soon.  It’s just one of those traditions.

If only life were like that for real…. As we get older we discover that you have to do more than make a wish for things to change in your life.

The first thing you need to decide is WHAT DO YOU WANT?  Is it money, peace of mind, happiness …..?  Without knowing that it will be dificult to turn your wishes into reality ….and never forget that riches cannot always be measured in money!

Think and Grow Rich

On the plane journey from London to Costa Rica we settled down with our audio books – it’s just such a great opportunity to invest in our education …… we got a copy of the Napoleon Hill Think And Grow Rich audio (which we have to say was a great investment) – Things we had read before we saw in a completely different light …… hence the reason for this blog post really and because we hear so often those words “I Wish I Could …….

What do you need to do to make your wishes come true?

We could not possibly say it any better than the man himself so we will quote from the book …. Think and Grow Rich

“Truly, ‘thoughts are things‘ and powerful things at that, when they are mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence , and a BURNING DESIRE for their translation into riches, or other material objects…….

Napoleon Hill goes on to describe how Edwin C Barnes discovered how true it is that men reallly do THINK AND GROW RICH.  His discovery did not come about at one sitting.  It came little by little, beginning with a BURNING DESIRE to become a business associatae of the great Edison

You can read the full story here – just grab your copy of the 1937 book – it’s in Chapter 1

Here’s what he knew … He KNEW WHAT HE WANTED, AND THE DETERMINATION TO STAND BY THAT DESIRE UNTIL HE REALISED IT.   He had no money to begin with.  He had but little education.  He had no influence.  But he did have initiative, faith, and the will to win.  With these intangible forces he made himself number one man with the greatest inventor who ever lived.

In this chapter you will also read about oneof the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat.  Every person is guilty of this mistake at one time or another.  We are NO EXCEPTION and we are sure it will happen to you as well.  The thing is – will you keep on keeping on or will you quit?

DESIRE is the starting point of all achievement

In Chapter 2 you will discover how Barnes succeeded because he chose a definite goal, placed all his energy, all his will power, all his effort, everything back of that GOAL.

He had a definite purpose to become the partner of Edison …. he was content to start at the beginning provided there was to be an opportunity to take a step towards his cherished goal. This is a remarkable illustration of the power of a DEFINITE DESIRE.  Barnes won his goal, because he wanted to be a business associate of Mr Edison more than he wanted anything else.  He created a plan by which to attain that purpose and he burnt all his bridges behind him

He didn’t say “I will work there for a few months, and if I get no encouragement, I will quit and get a job somewhere else”.  He did say “I will start anywhere.  I will do anything Edison tells me to do, but before I am through I will be his associate”

He did not say, “I will keep my eyes open for another opportunity, in case I fail to get what I want in the Edison organisation”   He said, “There is but ONE thing in this world that I am determined to have, and that is a business association with Thomas A Edison.  I will burn all bridges behind me, and stake my ENTIRE FUTRE on my ability to get what I want.

He left himself no possible way of retreat.  He had to win or perish.

What do we learn from this ?

That “wishing”  is not enough. That you need to have a DESIRE and a DEFINITE PURPOSE and be prepared to keep on keeping on until you get where you want to be and achieve your ultimate goal.

What the Mind Can Conceive The Mind Can Achieve …….

Here’s the video Susan recorded on the beach in Costa Rica talking about how we got to be here …… this really was a huge goal for us and a BIG stretch to come all this way but we knew that we absolutely had to do it no matter what and that DESIRE became a DESIRE WITH DEFINITE PURPOSE.

We cannot set your goals but we can help you to make a plan and give you the encouragement you need to follow through on that plan ….. for your part you just need that DEFINITE PURPOSE …… that you will Think and Grow Rich.
