In today’s article we’re going to cover the real truth about making money online.
In all honesty, just how many articles do you think are there about making money online? Thousands? Millions? Absolutely there are but there is a problem.
Too many of them are just sales pitches to convince you to sign up for some seminar, webinar, training session or some other way to become an online millionaire. Now there are some which are legitimate so it’s not all bad news but some of them really do give making money online a bad name and it’s sad that it’s those same pitches that kill people’s hopes and dreams and they give up thinking everything is a scam. We know that to be true because of the messages we get from hopeful and aspiring individuals who want to make money online but don’t know how or are worried their fingers will get burned.
The good news and the real truth about making money online is that it is possible but it’s just how you fathom your way through the smoke and mirrors and what we call the “get rick quick” schemes to find the legitimate ways to make money online. And we’ll be truthful here (hence the title of the article) most of them require a lot of hard work and dedication before seeing any return on your time.
We have a saying “if it looks too good to be true it probably is!”
The point is that what most people do is not treat making money online as a business but just a way to make some fast dollars and that’s part of the problem
If that’s really all you want to do then you can expect to get attracted by “get rich quick” schemes because after all that’s what you’re looking for. No disrespect intended but you get what you are looking for in this world. A search showing you how you can become a millionaire overnight or words to that effect is going to be one of those “too good to be true” kinds of schemes.
However, if you really want to make money online, work from home or turn an idea into a business, you can absolutely do it and we did – just to prove it.
Did we fall for some of those “get rich quick” schemes. Absolutely we did but we learnt from it and it helps us teach others how to avoid the pitfalls.
Personally, we are online entrepreneurs and our online affiliate marketing business in the education and training niche is a business and we treat it as a business but it’s not the only way to make money online.
Here are some other ways to make money online you might want to look at – we class them as “jobs” rather than having a business but they are nevertheless legitimate and may suit some people. They are jobs that require you to put in the hours if you want to get paid and they also require real work (we mentioned that before).
There are website where you get paid to take surveys, test products etc. They are great for earning some extra cash.
Fiverr is a great place to make a few bucks if you have a skill or talent and some people do make good money doing this but you are getting paid “time for money”
IZEA works in addition to a blog or on its own. You get paid to blog, tweet, take photos and take videos. The pay is mostly based on your following, so if you want to make money with your tweets, you’ll need to grow you Twitter following. Likewise, if you want to make money with blogs, you’ll need substantial blog traffic.
Freelance writing is one of the most popular ways to earn money online. Many successful freelancers can earn an average of 50 cents to a dollar per word. If you’re not interested in writing, we wouldn’t recommend traveling down this road just for the money. Plus you’ve got to build a good resume, reputation and all that good stuff as well.
For example iWriter – iWriter pays up to $15 for each accepted post and Textbroker – Textbroker pays up to five cents per word. There are others and you can find them searching on Google or Yahoo. There’s no doubt that you can make money with freelance writing, but it’s a process. Once you start building your portfolio and your writing skills, you can start making some serious money. If you’re not an experienced writer, expect to put some time in before you really start to see results. Like we said it requires WORK.
Then you can sell stuff and there’s lots of different ways you can do that from an e-commerce store like Shopify to running auction sites on eBay etc. If you like to create arts and crafts, you can sell them on Etsy.It’s completely free to open an Etsy storeWhatever you choose Do good business. Plain and simple. Whether you’re selling on a small site or opening an online store, your customer service matters.
Then there’s blogging. It’s a legitimate way to make money and it’s quite possibly the least straight-forward way on this list, but it’s very doable and it’s also quite possibly the most fun way from the list (outside affiliate marketing which we’ll come to in a moment). We love blogging and we know hundreds of bloggers who feel the same. So let’s talk about making money blogging and what it really means. Since we’re talking about the real truth about making money online let’s be clear here – blogging is something that requires patience, persistence and discipline. It may mean writing everyday for over a year before you really start to see any money from it. There are exceptions to the rule, but from our dealings with other bloggers, it seems to be pretty common to spend one or even two years building your blog, your brand and your authority, before making any serious amount of money! You will generally need a lot of website traffic to start earning from a blog and that takes a while.
Here are the primary ways to monetize your blog and start earning:-
Advertising – the old school way of earning money with a blog where you sell advertising spots on your site signing up with Google Adsense for example. You won’t see a lot of money from ads until your blog website views are well into the thousands every day.
Affiliate Networks – promote other people’s products and services by putting a banner on your page. You earn a percentage if someone clicks through and buys the product/service. These products should of course be congruent with your blog’s category and the more traffic you get to your site the more effective means of making money you will have.
Products and Services – if you have your own products and services you can use your blog as a promotion tool. Like affiliate networks, you need the traffic to get the sales! Selling your services via your blog is a method used by life coaches, financial planners, retirement planners etc. Basically your blog is used to sell yourself.
Sponsored and paid posts – these are where you have someone write a post that you publish on your blog website and you are basically selling the spot for the article on your site. Like the above it’s all about traffic statistics to your site that a potential article writer will need to consider.
If you’re truly interested in becoming a blogger, start by looking through the archives of ProBlogger, Copyblogger and Boost Blog Traffic We’ve learnt hugely from them over the years.
Affiliate Marketing
This is our favourite and one of the real ways to make money online but just like everything else we have mentioned here, it takes time to learn and an investment (time and money) but the rewards can be very satisfying. It’s what we do as our full time business now although we were accountants and management consultants professionally for most of our working lives. Affiliate marketing gives us a good income and allows us the travel and lifestyle we wanted. It’s really all a balance.
Affiliate marketing basically allows you to promote other people’s products and services and earn commissions from each sale. We are now able to choose the products and services we want to promote but because we specialise in the education and training niche there are huge possibilities for us from marketing an eBook to marketing a mastermind in the ten’s of thousands of dollars.
Work From Home Companies
There are some companies that will hire you to work from the comfort of your own home. If you’re interested in working for someone else, while still making your own schedule and deciding where to work from, here are a few companies that will let you do just that
CrowdSource, Demand Studios, Fast Chart, Leap Force, Liveops, SpeakWrite
With all of them you are paid by the hour and you set your own schedule and work from home
Now you’ve got many different options to start making money (earning) online. If you saw something that really interests you, try it out and learn more about it. If you’re really wanting to make a full-time income online, you need to be dedicated to learning how to do what you want to do. There are tons of free resources out there. You just have to search for them!
That’s why we love the online business education and entrepreneurship niche in which we work as affiliate marketers because it allows us to show people how to make money online legitimately and because it works for us we know it can work for others too.
Remember a real business requires work and effort but the rewards are definitely worth it.
