Back To The Future as DeLorean Goes Electric
We were watching the news late last night and heard that the famous “back to the future” DeLorean DMC-12 is about to come “back to the future” as a new electric version is due to launch in 2013.
The DeLorean Motor Company of Texas has announced that they’ll be building brand new, electric versions of the DMC-12, the car made famous in “Back To The Future.” The ‘gull-wing’ vehicle became iconic when it was used as Doc Brown’s time machine in the famous film series.
The DeLorean DMC-12 sports car was manufactured from 1981 through 1983 and was commonly known as the De Lorean since it was the only model ever produced by the company. Around 8,583 DMC-12’s were made before production fizzled in late 1982, with final production taking place in early 1983. Today, about six thousand DeLorean Motor Cars are believed to still exist.
Do you remember that car? We certainly do. In fact we remember vividly the “expererience” as we were lucky enough to be on that ride in Disneyland Florida at the time the first film was released. Shows our age a bit doesn’t it!

The new DeLorean fully electric version will far surpass the 88 mph that it took Doc Brown and Marty McFly to zoom off into the curve of space and time. It’s expected to hit 125 mph, and go 70 miles on a single charge.
With the New DeLorean poised to answer the world’s gas guzzling problems this truly is an exciting opportunity. This new car will be made of original parts and a new electric engine and will be built to order and cost around $90,000.

Just think about it – DeLorean had a great idea to create the original car back in 1981 but it didn’t work out according to plan and the original company failed. However someone else i.e. the founders of The DeLorean Motor Company of Texas took that same car with all the kudos surrounding its appearance in the mega successful “Back to the Future” blockbuster film series and are re-creating into an awesome new model which will solve a problem for the world being fully electric.
