It does of course take time to build that relationship and consistency is at the heart of that (emailing every day with value content, stories and sales messages)

However in order for your subscribers to read your email they first have to be tempted to open it bearing in mind that according to Ryan Deiss (Digital Marketer) we each receive 147 emails daily into our inbox!  That means a good “teaser” headline that is a precursor to what they will read inside and where you have that opportunity to talk to them

That headline must however not just tease but fulfil on the promise in the content you deliver or you will quickly lose your integrity and likelihood of your future emails being opened

A Headline Story

We’re out in the French Alps at the moment and on Sunday Chris had a skiing accident which resulted in a broken ankle.  We’ve been sharing the story with our subscribers (you may be one of them reading this right now even)  Remember we told you right at the beginning of this article that email is about building a relationship with you list?  Telling stories?

This was the headline of our emails  It’s a good job you can’t see into the future …

One of our subscribers commented ….  “How long did you have to stare at your bedroom ceiling to come up with this catchy phrase? Don’t read catchy phrases “

Our reply was  “We didn’t have to come up with it. It’s totally relevant to the story which you know if you read it. Clearly the headline did it’s job since you opened the email! ”
